A documentary called “The Power of Community” which tracks the story of how people in Cuba responded to the sudden loss of imported oil from the Soviet Union in the early 1990s, is a sobering and ultimately inspiring tale of how people can respond collectively to unexpected shocks. The average Cuban lost 25 pounds as the island nation struggled to deal with potential starvation in the wake of immediate “energy descent.” Less than an hour, available on YouTube and DVD.

Create or join a Timebank in your area to facilitate a wider Common Security/Resilience Circle. There are several options- free open source software that your group tailors to its community and maintains (from Austin Time Exchange/Bay Area Community Exchange http://timebank.sfbace.org/ Ruby on Rails code or Community Forge http://www.communityforge.net/ Drupal code ), or a paid. pre-made and maintained software package from Hour World http://www.hourworld.org or Timebanks USA http://www.timebanks.org/ .

Most resilience circles have MEETINGS that require people to GET TO. I’d like to see a suggestion on facilitating activities that would BRING a group to the homes of disabled people (such as me). I am oriented towards entertaining people, but this adds a level of stress.
